A tale of two bad experiences, one of UI and one of UX

Not long ago I got a message from a friend:
Join me on Plaxo – standard experience for community services.
Immediately I searched news for this new service, looked at the service youtube movie, it looked like a cool service so I got back to that email and clicked the link to started the process of signing in.
After entering all my personal details for several steps, Plaxo informed me that I can get the full service (premium) for a fee or get a limited service (basic)-
that was a show stopper for me.
That’s when I quit the registration process and forgot about plaxo.
Users like to be informed, If I am told the service is free and then I am told that I get a limited service if I don’t pay, well, that’s kind of wrong.
Now for the ways they did it so wrong (look at the attached image):
If I get to registration from the email notification, I do not see the website and then start with limited information.
No middle bundle – black or white – limited choice range.
Visual information: the basic bundle looks half as good as the premium bundle – I don’t read, just look at the comparison – users map objects of action before text.
The 30 days free trial is semi transparent and has a banner look – does not go in focus.
The table’s text shows me that the system features for the bundles are not so different, when I look at what the premium bundle has for me its:
backup and recovery (tells me the system can fail to perform),
duplicate contact elimination (what is that?)
full year subscription for plaxo eCredits (again- what is that?)
premium only discount on premium other services –
when I read between the lines I get: pay now so you can pay us more later – eCredits and discounts, inform users and use every day words, what is ecredits? What other premium services?
Now, how do I get out of this page? The only button is ‘continue’ - page navigation is limited.
This is just one form with UI design needed- this can be a show stopper for registering customers.
Since I closed that page behind me, and I did not complete my registration to Plaxo, I get (at least) once a day an email from Plaxo –
“Confirm your e-mail address.
Click the link below to verify your e-mail address and activate your account. E-mail verification protects your identity and allows you to securely use the Plaxo service.
Important! Click here to activate your new account.
Thanks for signing up.
The Plaxo team ”
But I did not create an account, STOP NAGGING ME!
And this is a bad user experience for you.
